71 lemans junk mine

One night while my parents were away on vacation I decided to have a
party. I'm a 20-yrd college student having a little fun.I was as drunk
as could be and partying away. I had just lost my job and had saved
$2,000 over the summer. It was about the begining of August and I was
looking for a bike to buy. I originally wanted to buy a street bike. And
all of asuden my brother came through the door he was as drunk as I was.
We started talking about his old old's that I rolled for hom.(i had to
pay him back in full). Then we got a crazy idea for me to get by own car
to fix up. Although I was drunk I took him up on his offer. The next day
I bought a want-Advertiser Magazine. I got an idea of what I wanted. I
either wanted a late 60's camaro or a pontiac. After searching for a car
for two-weeks in magazines I had given up. So I turned to the internet.
I found a site called the bostoncarguide.com. In this site you could pic
the area of the nation you wanted to search though and price you
expected to buy at as well as the year. So I put in the imformation that
was required and a list of cars came up. The first couple of cars that I
saw were a couple of 69-buick's.They seemed to be in great condition and
were selling for $2,400 each. I called they both imediatly but one was
sold the other day and the other had been sold an hour prior to when I
called. So I kept going through looking and found a 69 GTX with a 400ci.
I called and the rear frame needed to be welded. So I dropped that idea
and kept searching. I finally came across my 71 pontiac lemans sport. It
was selling for $1,700. It was located in western coneticut. It took me
2 1/2 hours to get there. When I got there I immediatly fell in love
with it. It looked like a junk bucket but had great potential. He turned
the car over as it rumbled I could see it finished even before i
boughtit I purchased the car for $1,400 but had to tow it and it cost me
another $270. There I had my first muscle car, I was so exited!!! When I
got it to my grandfathers summer cottage I must have sat in it for
3-hours. I immediatly started the project. The first day I cleaned the
interior which was in exellent shape to my suprise. I then went around
looking for things I had to do. The entire inner trunk had been rotted
out. He gave me two of the three floor pan's, I ordered the other
immediatly. The cheeter corners were also cut out of the rear querter
pannel. He had given me both but one of them had been bent out of shape.
I also ordered those. The other thing that had to be done is replacing
the front driveres floor pan. The rear windshield had been taken out as
well but given to me. The front windshield had a large crack in it. The
first thing I did was remove the inner trunk pannels. Then I removed the
floor pan. I did this with a wis-wheel. I have also taken out the
interior. The next step was to strip the paint off the body. It has
taken me 8 weekends to sand blast. I have also bondowed the body.
Durring my thanks giving break from school I plan on priming the body. I
am currently looking for a 400ci for the car. I found one just today. I
originally wanted to build it myself. But I found a company in jersy
that builds these engines. I'm looking to push about 400+ horses out of
this engine. The company that I have contacted said they can do it for
2,900 bucks. This also meens that I will have to get the trans rebuilt
and I plan to put 3:73's in the rear. That means I'm going to have to
ask my parents to co-sign a $4,000 lone. So far I'm glad I did't buy
that street bike.
