This is the story of the love of my life. A 1968 GTO convertible I bought from my brother in 1979. After he got so many ticketed after owning it in a mere 5 months that his girlfriend coaxed him to sell it. When I bought the car it was the summer of 78. I had worked all summer with my father cutting firewood to sell, and busting my butt at the swap meet for him to make extra money to buy the only car my brother ever called the great one. Finally after all my hard, hard work I hit paydirt and the GOAT was finally mine. I had driven it to school before, but now it was mine, all mine. I rode through the streets of my town with such a glow and feeling of self being that I was really somebody. After a while I realized that something this close to me must have a name, so I thought and I thought, when it came to me SHEILA!!!!!!! I blurted. It was perfect, that was the name of my very first real girlfriend, she also taught me many things about life, and love...This was the car of my childhood, (no) my dreams, this car had the possibility of making me a legend, at least in my own mind. I could not believe the power, prowess I had as a teen when I bought this car at a bagger boy's price at 16, In 1979. This car has made my life as a teen so complete, that I could not even fathom how their could be any other realty than me and my 68 GTO Convertible on the streets. |
