Well, from the beginning, my dad and his twin brother bought a Palmetto green 66 GTO convertible when they were 15 for $150. The car had a 389 4bbl and a blown 4-speed. They got a tranny and replaced the 389, which didn't run right, with a 67 400. The car had a 3:23 gear and the transmission didn't have second gear, yet the Pontiac still had balls enough to blow the doors off my uncle's 440 4-speed w/ 4:11 geared 69 GTX. Years later, my dad had to sell the car to his younger brother, who still owns the car. It is red now, with the 389 back in it, completely restored. Shortly after my dad sold the car, he bought another 66 GTO convertible, which happens to be red also. When I was 15, we decided to get a car for me to fix up. It was a 67 Firebird that we picked up for $100. I put in a 400 w/ the hood to match, replaced the 1/4's, painted it blue, and replaced the single track with a 3:42 posi. My uncle (my dad's twin) also got a 66 GTO convertible that he is now restoring. the younger uncle really got the itch for old goats when he got finished restoring the one that has been in the family for 26 years. He bought a dark green 66 post coupe GTO that we put a race ready 428 in, and he picked up a 66 hdtp that is getting an all out racing small block chevy motor (tunnel rams, 13:1 compression, 600/600 lift cam, all the goodies, plus a 4:56 gear) My mom fell in love with a 39 Pontiac 4 door that my dad found, so that's another project. Its all original and very solid. our latest project is a 66 Tempest convertible that is going to be my everyday driver. Were giving it all the GTO goodies. We're up to seven pontiacs and still looking. Oh, and did I mention that my mom drives a Pontiac Transport minivan? |
