Could the GTO be built today?

daniel.a.russ@gm.com

I have a dream and boy is it a big one.  That dream is for General Motors to
again manufacture the 1964 - 74 GTO's using today's technology.  All GTO's
would physically be the same in appearance.  Same interiors, exteriors, color
combinations, etc.  They would start with the 1964 and follow the yearly
progression.  The only difference would be that they use the safety
technology of today such as four wheel disk brakes, airbags, current
frame/body crash protection, etc.  GM would of course have to use their
"corporate powertrain engines" such as the Gen III V8 however (unless GM
Powertrain could pull a rabbit out of their hat and reproduce the 400/455 ci
V8).  The goal is not to reinvent the mousetrap but to reproduce it.  Here's
the catch:  I need your help.  I'm just one voice.  I want to personally
deliver tens of thousands of letters and email begging GM to reproduce this
car.  Chrysler has already tested the waters by producing the Prowler (a
50/60's retro car) to their great success.  I'm certain that if GM
remanufactured these awesome cars that they would not be able to make enough
GTO's to meet the demand.  Email me at with your letters and spread the word.
I believe that we can persuade GM to build this fantastic car again but it's
going to take a massive effort on all of our parts.  So what do you think?
Let me know!
